Artist Portrait’s Project
Aberdeen 2022 - Current
In 2022 I successfully secured the Creative Funding award from Aberdeen City Council to produce a body of work featuring portraits of artists living and working within the North East of Scotland. This project was initially inspired by Alexander Mcdonalds artists portraits from 1878 which consists of 94 self portrait paintings of artists. A selection of which is currently on show at Aberdeen Art Gallery as part of the permanent collection.
This project’s primary aim is to be a contemporary interpretation Mcdonalds collection, showcasing local talents and highlighting how much society has developed and diversified since the victorian ear. Also aiming to build stronger connections across the many different communities within the North East of Scotland through establishing a platform which is open to practitioners of any back ground and skill level.
The project will feature 40 artists on display at any given time, and it is designed to be a modular installation. Therefore, the individuals on show will be updated as the city welcomes new and emerging artists.
